On Longing Memento Responses

“The body is the primary mode of perceiving scale”

I chose this photo because it was my first time seeing a Straykids ad in Times Square and it was absolutely humongous. I was so glad they got something that big to celebrate their performance at the Global Citizens Festival.

“The Souvenir speaks to a context of origin through a language of longing”

My roommates and I love photo booths and we wish there were more in Florida. This one was our first in New York in Korea Town. We spent such a long time deciding what themes we would do and how we would take the photos. Now we each have one with us and this one specifically is put on the wall of the photo booth.

“The souvenir reduces the public, the monumental, and the 3 dimensional into the miniature, that which can be enveloped by the body”

I can see everything in this photo. The restaurant, my roommate sitting across from me. I can smell the food as we were sat right next to the kitchen.  I can taste the dumplings. The pork, bbq and taro flavors. I feel how warm the restaurant was. It’s all just there for me.

“The souvenir is used most often to evoke a voluntary memory of childhood”

I don’t remember specifically when this was but I do know it was at DeLeon Springs. I have a huge fear of small boats and remember my father making fun of me for being so scared, but I swear we were going to fall in with how much it was shaking.

“The place of origin must remain unavailable in order for the desire to be generated”

This was Straykids at the Global Citizens Festival. What’s crazy about this was that we were supposed to see the whole group (8 members) but due to some incidences only three of them (known as 3racha) were able to show up. This was technically the first time 3racha has presented themselves and performed under said name for a festival and there is much doubt they will again; as the group prefers to perform as Straykids. The festival also took place in Grand Central Park, which means we can’t go back and see the venue unless they build it again.
